I worked with developer friend Tom Cassady on the artwork for his mobile game Itty Bitty Grava Kitty.

Concepts

We started with some really fast concept work - getting an idea for the feel of the game. This one's too sinister...

...this one's too colourful...

And this one is "cutesy modern" sort of the idea that it would become like a 50's retro space-race style.

Before we decided the enemies would be mice we tried dogs, and weird green alien things - the cut scenes didn't make it into the final game though.

Characters

We iterated over the jetpack mouse quite a bit, I think eventually making the fire a seperate sprite or even particles. I quite like these guys though.

sb

Sub-boss mouse.

I wanted to make the idles really goofy and kind of over the top. Really happy with his bouncy idle, could probably stretch and squash his body more in the walk.

Here's a whole load of (mostly really dumb) concepts for the big-boss:

Get it

Itty Bitty Grava-Kitty has been released for android and is available for free on google play. Careful though - it's rock hard.
